The village has a wide variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, a museum and a wealth of activities including a nine hole golf course and pony trekking.
The world famous gardens of Inverewe are but a short drive away, as are a number of fishing, marine wildlife and sightseeing boat trips, from the local harbour.
There is a leisure centre (open to all) with a climbing wall and various sports facilities, a community centre which hosts a variety of local attractions, regular local markets, a tourist information centre and a 24 hour filling station. Internet cafe facilities are available at several locations in the area and there is a swimming pool in the nearby village of Poolewe.
The immediate and surrounding areas are paradise for walkers and climbers, with numerous low level routes, in and around the village. There are also higher and more challenging routes - some of which are close to the village, others feature in the breathtaking Beinn Eighe national park area, which takes in the Torridon Mountains and includes two of the areas Munros.
For those who prefer a more sedentary activity, there are many hill lochs, with trout fishing available or just enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife in the peace and tranquillity of this area in spectacular Wester Ross.
